Debate: Pens or Pencils?

State your opinion, backed up by facts.  Then, let the great debate begin. SS#

I think that pencils are better because you mess up you can erase it where as pens you can scribble it out but it harder for the person who is marking it to read because there would be scribbles everywhere. The only thing that I don't like about pencils is you have to sharpen them where as pens you just 'click'. But if you think about it sharpening a pencil isn't that big of a deal. Another thing that can happen with pens is you might have them in your pocket and it explodes and makes a stain in whereever you are keeping that pen. I have that happen in my family a ton!!!!!!! Pens can also smudge a lot if the ink has not dryed so again harder for the person that is marking it to understand. Pencils are also cheaper than pens so if you go to staples and by a whole bunch of pens it would cost way more money than HB pencils. Pens are nice for colour coating stuff but we really don't have the need for that I mean we use pencils and we haven't died cause we can't colour coat stuff. I definatly think PENCILS are a better choice when it comes to school, work, etc.

I think that pencils are alot better for school because, if you mess up you can just erase the mistake. also if you write in pen and you mess up all you can do is scribble it out which makes your page look very messy. as erin said above, shapening pencils does take up some time but you can get mechanical pencils and you can click them to get led just like you click pens to get ink. if you use pens to do your work and the person marking it uses a pen it can be hard for you to read especially if the person marking it uses the same colour. Some people think that pens are better because you can get them in different colours. that is true but you can also get mechanical pencils in different colours too!
pens are fine for marking but when it comes to school work i think that pencils are the way to go!!!

pencils are better because they don,t get smudged. and they come with erasers. Pens don't. I also agree with you, Erin. Pens explode and the ink goes everywhere. A pencil may break, yet its lead doesn't go every where. Not a lot of people use pens to colour. You can colour with something called colour pencils, which are coloured pencils. Sharpening pencils isn't that much of a deal. You can buy small sharpeners that don't make as much noise as the big, black ones. As for erasing, you can just swipe the eraser bits onto a tissue and when you are done whatever you are doing, then carefully wrap up the tissue and throw it into the trash can.As Erin said, pencils are cheaper than pens. you can also write with mechanical pencils.

Pens don't erase. you just cross it out. that makes a mess. If you use white-out on coloured paper, and colour it back, it won't look as good. In my opinion, whiteout is not a good idea. As for the 'special' erasers, they can rip the paper.

If the paper gets wet, let's hope you wrote in pencil. After all, if ink gets wet, it starts to run and bleed across the page.

Pens are more permanent. If you have to sign a contract, you should use a pen. It's harder for someone else to change your signature without it being obvious. Pencils would be too easy to erase.

some pens are erasable and you don't have sharpen pens

Victoria,

True, but it is not that big of a deal to shapen pencils you can get the mini pencil sharpeners we have and not have to get up and sharpen them plus I bet erasible pens are problaby harder to find than pencils AND normal pens and so what if the school was providing for you they problaby won't buy the erasible kind I mean look at the ones we have now they are not erasible. And eraible pens are Problaby a tad bit more expensive than regular pens AND pencils.

ithink that when you get an eraser for a pecil sure it erases but not very well unless you erase it for a longer time and with pens they have an eraser too it doesn't erase it all either both pen and pencils are bad at erasing
